Synopsis

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time is a murder mystery novel like no other. The detective, and narrator, is Christopher Boone. Christopher is fifteen and has Asperger's, a form of autism. He knows a very great deal about maths and very little about human beings. He loves lists, patterns and the truth. He hates the colours yellow and brown and being touched. He has never gone further than the end of the road on his own, but when he finds a neighbour's dog murdered he sets out on a terrifying journey which will turn his whole world upside down.

Auf Dauer ist es jedoch ermüdend die beschränkte Ausdrucksweise zu ertragen (in der Art: He said, I said, he said ... über Seiten hinweg oder I did, he did ).

It has been a wonderful experience reading this coming-of-age novel about a young boy named Christopher. It has been written in a manner which is simple and yet keeps one involved at all times. Mark Haddon has written this novel in a first person narrative style and it feels as if Christopher is talking to you. Even the structure of the book (the diagrams, the prime numbered chapters, puzzles etc) makes you feel like Christopher himself wrote the book. Christopher is a very logical person, speaks literally and avoids using metaphor and this can be clearly seen in the narrative style. While this would classify as a mystery novel, there is plenty of humour, and it normally is due to Christopher's naive misunderstandings of situations and people. While reading the book I could sympathise with Christopher and felt connected to him on some level. It is a quick read (you could finish this in a day or two) as well as enjoyable and surprising on so many levels.

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time is written simply and beautifully- I would highly recommend this book to others. I got through it in a couple of hours, so don't expect an epic read. The subtle and at times heartbreaking character and plot development allow you to drift into the world of the novel without being forced into it. The narrator, given his difficulties in understanding human emotion, presents you with the facts of situations rather than analysing them. Such prose allows your own life sapience to permeate the world of the novel, almost establishing you as the reader an integral part of the storyline.Congratulations to Haddon on an excellent novel.

We read the book ,,The curious incident of the dog in the nighttime'' written by Marc Haddon in our english class. When I heard that we will read a book, I wasn't delighted, but this book is expertly written! The main character is a fifteen year old boy, called Christopher Boone. He has the asperger's syndrom.During the story of a killed dog, Christopher tells us what he is thinking about and what is going on inside his head.He has a different perspective of view on the whole world. Because of his illness, the boy has his own routinesand he is very interested in physics and maths.Christopher wants to find out who murdered the dog of his neighbour. There are other mysteries of his familywhich were solved too.Haddon's opinion of the book is, that it is very special and demanding to read because of the main character whois an autist and the author is convinced of the story. In my opinion the book is a bit to long, after the first half you know who murdered the dog and because of thatit becomes a bit boring. The novel is very strenuous to read if you don't know the illness Christopher has.I like the use of diagrams and the unusual chapter numbering, it makes the book more interesting and you getimpressions of the main character's illness. In conclusion the book was very special and interesting too. I have never red a novel like this before. The crime story, narrated by a young boy who suffers from the aspeger's syndrom, is recommendable.
