Frank Herbert was the bestselling author of the Dune saga. He was born in Tacoma, Washington, and educated at the University of Washington, Seattle. He worked a wide variety of jobs—including TV cameraman, radio commentator, oyster diver, jungle survival instructor, lay analyst, creative writing teacher, reporter and editor of several West Coast newspapers—before becoming a full-time writer.In 1952, Herbert began publishing science fiction with “Looking for Something?” in Startling Stories. But his emergence as a writer of major stature did not occur until 1965, with the publication of Dune. Dune Messiah, Children of Dune, God Emperor of Dune, Heretics of Dune, and Chapterhouse: Dune followed, completing the saga that the Chicago Tribune would call “one of the monuments of modern science fiction.” Herbert was also the author of some twenty other books, including The White Plague, The Dosadi Experiment, and Destination: Void. He died in 1986.

If you dont like heavy books for daily use, then this is not recommended, but if you would like a good price for all the three Dune books, then this is a good purchase. The book is definitely one of the best Sci-Fi novels and universes in recent times and will probably be for a lot of decades to come.
Super Buch, bei diesem Preis kann man überhaupt nicht meckern. Durch eine kleinere Schriftgrösse und Kapitel die immer gleich am Ende des vorherigen anfangen hat man zwar Platz gespart, doch das stört nicht weiter. Denn das essentielle, und zwar die Bücher selbst, sind in vollem Maße enthalten und außer ein paar Druckfehlern ist mir nichts negatives aufgefallen.
I bought this book, started reading it and then not even 100 pages in, the first 80 pages just fell out. Poor quality.
it's a very big book...the size.reading is fine and you can see very clear the letter but the way they shipped it was not great...it arrived with a few dent's and marks.
Everything ok with the stuff, fast shipping. No complaints, just need to fill few more words and I'm good to reveiw.
Diese äußerst preisgünstige (im Vergleich zu den drei deutschen Einzelausgaben) Ausgabe der drei ersten Dune-Romane von Herbert ist genau das Richtige für die schmale Geldbörse, vorrausgesetzt man bringt die nötigen Fremdsprachenkenntnisse und die Ausdauer mit an die 900 Seiten zu lesen. Herbert schreibt ein grundsätzlich einfaches Englisch, das nur durch futuristische "Fachausdrücke" und philosophisch-theologische Ausdeutungen und Sachverhalte etwas verkompliziert wird. Die Schriftgröße ist, wie auch der Zeilen- und Seitenumbruch sehr auf Raumersparnis ausgelet (kleinere Schriftgröße, neue Kapitel beginnen immer da, wo die vorangegangen enden, d.h. auch an Seitenenden). Ein paar Druckfehler haben sich auch eingeschlichen. Aber das lässt sich alles bei einem so preisgünstigen Angebot leicht verschmerzen.
Das Buch ist wundervoll, doch kann ich von dieser Auflage nur abraten! Das Cover wurde aus laminiertem Karton hergestellt, von dem sich die Folie bereits beim ersten Lesen langsam auf sehr unschöne Art und Weise löst und einen Teil des Druckes mitablöst, wodurch die schön gestaltete Coverillustration unnötig zerstört wird. Ich kann das Buch allen Science-Fiction Fans nur weiterempfehlen, muss aber dringend dazu raten, eine andere Auflage zu kaufen.

You find yourself more and more drawn into the horror that unfolds. Again, Herbert has managed to make the book unpredictable at all times, leaving you gasping at one nasty occurence after another.If you think you might go the whole way and read all six books in the series, then do read this book after Dune. If you don't think you'll manage all six books, it's perhaps best you don't venture beyond Dune, for this book leaves the universe in a sad state compared to the heroic victory at the end of the first tale.
